The purpose of the Emergency Response Plan is to provide guidelines to prepare for potential crisis or emergency situations. We want to ensure all exhibitors are provided with important information and proper communication during an emergency.
Exhibitors should report any suspicious activity as soon as possible to the San Diego Convention Center Security immediately, and describe specifically what you observed, including: who or what you saw, when you saw it, where it occurred and why it's suspicious. |

If the Fire Alarm Sounds |
The San Diego Convention Center has a state-of-the-art fire detection and alarm system. When triggered, horns and flashing strobe devices, accompanied by either a pre-recorded or live person announcement, activate in the effected zone. If you are in an area that has an active alarm, please DO NOT immediately evacuate, unless there is obvious sign of danger or fire. Please listen for an announcement or direction from uniformed staff. Remember that elevators and escalators will not be available for use during an evacuation. If you are above the lobby level in the meeting rooms move toward the emergency staircases, located throughout the building. Convention Center personnel will respond quickly to assist with the evacuation and with re-entry once the emergency has passed. |
If You Discover a Fire | Call the EMERGENCY EXTENSION 5911. State the location, type of emergency, severity and any injuries or immediate danger. Leave the area immediately, closing all doors. This is to confine the fire and reduce oxygen. Do not block doors. If above ground level, exit the building using only the stairways. DO NOT USE THE ELEVATORS. Follow the established evacuation route. If the evacuation route is blocked leave the area via an alternate route. |
In Case of Heavy Smoke |
Smoke generally rises so stay low keeping your body and face as close to the floor as possible. Breathe as little as possible and cover your face with a wet cloth if necessary. |
Earthquakes | The greatest threat during an earthquake is falling debris. Earthquakes are unpredictable and strike without warning. It is important to know the appropriate steps in order to be able to react quickly and safely. Remember as with a fire alarm activation that elevators and escalators will not be available for use during an evacuation. |
